A fifth generation native of Auburn, California, Dr. Michael Johnson began preparing for his career in optometry by volunteering in a local optometrist’s office at the age of 18. After observing and working in the field for a year, he knew it was the career choice for him.
He earned both his Bachelors degree and Optometric degree from University of California, Berkeley. While at Berkeley, Dr. Johnson authored two papers for national competitions which earned him a scholarship for each. He also started “The Suitcase Clinic”. The Suitcase Clinic began as a weekly vision clinic for the homeless of Berkeley and surrounding area. It soon grew to incorporate many specialties including primary care and dentistry. Concurrent with his studies, he also worked in the research and development department of a premier equipment manufacturer.
After graduation, Dr. Johnson moved to Southern California to work with a retina specialist and glaucoma specialist. This training facilitated his move back to the area when he was recruited to work in large, multi-specialty clinic where he later became the head optometrist. These unique experiences led him to transition to private practice in 2002 where he has distinguished himself by providing excellent and compassionate care to patients of all ages. He continually reinvests in both his training and equipment with the goal of providing the ultimate patient experience. His patients now benefit from an elite combination of highly trained doctors, diagnostic equipment, patient education, and quality eyewear for the treatment of all eye anomalies.
When not in the office, Dr. Johnson enjoys spending time with his son. Together, they enjoy golfing, bicycling and traveling. To date, Dr. Johnson has visited over 25 different countries. In the summer, Dr. Johnson can be found in the California Delta or Bay Area doing his favorite sport, windsurfing.
