Citrus Heights, CA (September 15th, 2011) – EYEcenter Optometric is excited to announce that they are one of the first optometric practices in the nation to offer Duette Multifocal, a new state-of-the art hybrid contact lens from SynergEyes, Inc. For the first time, patients over 45 can wear a hybrid contact lens that delivers clear, crisp binocular vision so they can see near and far and everywhere in-between.

Over 100 million people in the United States have presbyopia, an age-related eye condition that eventually affects everyone over 45; even those who have never needed vision correction before. Presbyopia is caused by a loss of elasticity within the natural lens of the eye that makes it more difficult for the eye to focus up close. The result is blurred near vision. Until now, contact lenses for people over 45 have required wearers to compromise their distance vision in order to see at near.

Duette Multifocal offers great vision due to new hybrid technology that combines two types of materials into one lens: a rigid gas permeable or “hard” lens center and a soft skirt. The rigid center of the lens uses a proprietary MultiPro² technology that delivers “simultaneous vision” which allows the eye to easily focus back and forth between all distances. The soft skirt around the center provides the all-day comfort of a soft lens. “Duette contacts are like progressive glasses,” said Dr. Fuerst, “but instead of carrying around a pair of glasses, our patients wear comfortable contacts lenses that allow them see at all distances.”
Approved for marketing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Duetteä family of lenses are the first hybrid contact lenses with a silicone hydrogel skirt, a MaxVu rigid center with high oxygen permeability and a class II UV blocker.
