VISION THERAPY

At Eyecenter Optometric. . .

The vision therapy department has been an established part of Eyecenter for over thirty years. We receive referrals from many professionals, including optometrists, physicians, psychologists, educators and rehabilitation specialists for the diagnosis and treatment of conditions in the following areas:

  • visual efficiency,
  • visual information processing, learning-related vision problems

Over the years, we have frequently heard comments from parents such as ". . .her school work has definitely improved. She used to really struggle with her homework, always taking twice as long as her other classmates. This is no longer the case!"

Tracking and Focusing

The ability to track, focus, use the two eyes together as a team, and process visual information properly is a learned response, and therefore deficiencies in these areas can be treated. Newly learned visual skills are honed until they become automatic and effortless for the individual, at that point the skills are typically retained for their lifetime.

Standardized Testing

After a thorough battery of standardized testing has been completed, parents are given the results and how they relate (or not) to entering concerns, as well as a treatment recommendation. Treatment may consist of any or all of the following: glasses, contact lenses, patching, in-office therapy, home therapy (using lenses, prisms, filters, and a computer program), or an outside referral to another health care or special education providers. If treatment is required, a customized program is designed to address the specific inadequacies measured. Upon completion of the program, any areas addressed are post-tested and a final report is generated, including the measured results of the therapy and any further recommendations.
